The Browns have made the blockbuster trade of the offseason Tuesday night as they have received all-world wide out, Odell Beckham Jr from the New York Giants. In return the Giants will receive safety Jabrill Peppers, the Browns 2019 first round pick and the second of the three third round picks as well.
The news broke out of nowhere when NFL Network released the trade. The Browns get their guy who will reunite best friend and college teammate, Jarvis Landry.
As for the Giants, they’re in full rebuild mode as they traded their best player and are searching for a new QB, most likely to be Dwayne Haskins.
Just two years removed from the forgettable 0-16 season, many experts have the Browns winning the division and possibly making a deep playoff push.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irving, on a phone call via NFL Total Access, says “this may be the greatest turnaround in NFL, if not sports history. John Dorsey should get all of the credit in the world. He has done an amazing job.”
So what are the Browns getting exactly? Well Beckham has missed 21 games in his first 5 NFL seasons. However, he has put up NUMBERS. He has racked up 5,476 yards in five seasons which averages out to about 1,095 yards a season.
Odell adds depth to the Browns already decent WR core. He will allow Jarvis Landry to get more receptions as Beckham will become the primary target for defenses.
Now what do the Giants get? Well with the first round pick, the Giants are now expected to draft A.J. Brown, WR out of Ole Miss. With their third round pick the Giants are projected to get Amani Oruwariye a CB out of Penn St.
And the newest member of the New York Giants, former first round pick, Jabrill Peppers has had a quite career up until this point as he has racked up 2 interceptions and 1 sack through his sophomore campaign.
He can be thought of as the replacement for Landon Collins as NFL Network analyst Mike Garafolo says “he can replace and do many of the things that Landon Collins did with them.”
With these type of blockbuster trades, we never know who wins or who losses. The only thing we can do is sit and wait for the season to start to truly see who wins this mega trade.
