The Sharon High School Eagles suffered their worst loss of the season to the North Attleboro High School Red Rocketeers 42-14. This makes the Eagles 1-2 heading into Sharon’s first night football game ever against the Stoughton High School Black Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
North Attleboro scored on a blocked punt, a four yard run, and a one yard run before senior quarterback Jeremy Ruskin found senior co captain wide receiver Chris Gong for a twenty six yard touchdown pass. They would connect again for a five yard touchdown pass, but not before the Red Rocketeers scored on a sixteen yard pass, a twenty five yard pass, a rushing touchdown, and three extra points. Senior kicker Mitchell Director successfully kicked two extra points after the touchdowns.
Sharon’s offensive standouts included Ruskin, throwing for 123 passing yards and two touchdowns, and Gong, with three receptions for thirty six yards and two touchdowns. The defensive standouts of the game are senior linebacker co captain Sam Spencer, had seven tackles, and senior defensive lineman co captain Coleman Loftus, five tackles including a tackle for loss.
Sophomore Running Backs Nick Marrero and Michael Kechedzhi, Quarterback Kiran Chandrasekaran, and junior Wide Receiver Cameron Baker logged their first offensive stats of the season. Kechedzhi also stated for the first time on defense at Middle Linebacker this year along with junior Defensive Lineman Sam Freedman and senior Free Safety Michael O’Shea.
“Well, it was really cool because most of my life I have looked up to the varsity football team,” Freeman said about playing his first game. “I always wanted to be out there with those guys and now that I get to be out there playing football and it is just so much fun to be out there,” he said.
Stoughton, also sporting a 1-2 record, lost a close game against the Foxboro High School Warriors 16-13 on Friday night at Canton High School. The Black Knights do not have a home field because their school is being renovated. Their only victory was on the road against the Framingham High School Flyers. Their first loss was against the Catholic Memorial School Knights at Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts.
Stoughton has a five game win streak against the maroon and gold, winning thirteen of their last fourteen games against the Eagles since 2004. They ran over Sharon to win 33-0 last season. The last time Sharon beat Stoughton was in 2012 at home winning 16-14, the year that the Eagles eventually won the Eastern Massachusetts Super Bowl Championship.
