Class Night, Thursday, May 24th @ 7pm
This event is an informal and festive evening for the Class of 2018. Typically attended by the entire class, as well as parents/guardians, time is spent reminiscing about shared experiences. Story-telling and video montages capture the students’ history together.
Senior Prom, Tuesday, May 29th
On the night of the prom between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., students and their guests will enjoy a nice dinner, as well as an evening of dancing at Venezia in Boston. Faculty will serve as chaperones. Because transportation to and from the prom is on coach buses and traffic may be heavy on the route to the event, students should arrive at the rear of the high school by the gym between 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Departure from SHS will be at 5:45 p.m. Please also note that in the interest of safety, all students and their guests will be required to complete a breathalyzer test. Any student who fails the test at any point during the evening will lose the privilege of participating in the graduation ceremony. Buses will begin departing the prom at 10:00 p.m.
Senior BBQ, Wednesday, May 30th @ 6pm
The class will have an evening social by the bandstand near Memorial Beach that will end no later than 8:30 p.m. Guests are not allowed. Students will be free to leave from the BBQ at any time they choose.
Class Trip, Newport, RI, Thursday, May 31st
The Class of 2018 will travel to Newport, RI to spend the day by the beaches, the shops, and the mansions along the Cliff Walk. There is no other cost. Click here to print the permission form that has been distributed to members of the class.
Evening of Recognition, Thursday, May 31st @ 6:30pm
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., members of the Class of 2018 will be acknowledged for a variety of different accomplishments. Scholarship announcements will be made, and school and departmental awards will also be distributed. The formal nature of the evening calls for students who attend to dress professionally. Recipients and their parents/guardians will receive a personal invitation very soon. Classmates not being recognized are also welcome to attend in support of their peers.
Graduation Rehearsal & Senior Walk, Friday, June 1st
Students should report to SHS by 8:30 a.m. for an organizational walk-through of the ceremony. Following the rehearsal, buses will transport the Class of 2018 to SMS and then to one of the three elementary schools so that they can participate in a “Senior Walk”. This will begin around 10:15 a.m. and end back at SHS around 12:15 p.m. Click hereto see a video documenting last year’s experience. To conclude the day, students will receive a “packet” containing (4) graduation tickets for an indoor ceremony, temporary files from the Guidance Department, and health/immunization records from the nurse.
Graduation, Sunday, June 3rd @ 4pm
The ceremony will start precisely at 4:00 p.m. Graduates should arrive at the high school no later than 3:00 p.m. and convene in the gymnasium before beginning the processional. Doing so will ensure a prompt start. In keeping with the dignified nature of the event, graduates should dress casually elegant. NO tickets are needed for an outdoor ceremony. Bleachers and chairs are available, and there is also standing-room along the fence. In the event that poor weather forces the ceremony into the gymnasium, notification will come as early as possible. Each graduate is limited to 4 graduation tickets for an indoor ceremony. Television viewing of the event will be available in the air-conditioned library at the high school. SCTV will also broadcast the graduation ceremony live. Diplomas can be picked up by the graduates immediately following the ceremony.
