Girls Lacrosse Preview

By Abbi Solomon (Online Assistant Editor in Chief)

After a successful 2017 Girls Lacrosse season, making it to the quarter semi finals for the first time in school history, the Eagles were faced with some devastating news that their head coach Colleen Carchedi would not be returning.

Devastated by this news, and also losing key players Alex and Sam Rabb who are playing for Ithaca College, and Anna Crosby, attending UMass Amherst, the team knew that they were going to have to work extra hard this upcoming season.

The team is lead this year by Senior Captains Sabrina Robbins and Abbi Solomon who are very excited and believe the team has a lot of potential for this season.

The new coach is Shara Ginthwain. Ginthwain coached the JV team for three years and is ready to step up and take on her own team.

Coming back after starting the Sharon Girls Lacrosse Program over 15 years ago is Sharon wellness teacher Ms. Gassman.

“I am so excited about every aspect of this sport and to coach such a great group of girls,” said Gassman. “I am eager to step out of my retirement of being the head coach and to continue this program that I once began, now as the Junior Varsity Coach.”

Gassman’s excitement about the season is resonating with the rest of the team who are all getting ready for tryouts on Monday, March 19th.

This year’s team has a lot of athletes and many underdogs who will be important to keep an eye on. Senior midfielder Sabrina Robbins will be playing her last high school season, before continuing to play Division 1 lacrosse at the University of Colorado Boulder.

“I think there is so much talent on this team, and a lot of it goes unnoticed,” said midfielder Robbins. “If everyone puts their hearts and hustle into this season it will be amazing how far we can come together.”

Junior Emma Eberhart, who will serve as a key player on the team, recently committed to play Division 1 Lacrosse at Lehigh University in the class of 2023.

“I am super excited for the season especially with all the progress the team and the program made last year. It’s awesome to be part of a team who is so determined and just so close on and off of the field,” said Eberhart.
