After more dominating victories, the Sharon High School boys tennis team (23-0) and girls tennis team (24-0) each earned Division 2 South and Division 1 South titles respectively.
The boys continued their dominance, sweeping Scituate 5-0. The Eagles took care of business early in their matches, taking the first set in all five matches. The number one and two singles, senior Griffin Fein and junior Fred Bondar, each won in straight sets as well as both doubles teams for Sharon. Junior Andrew Olivia lost his second set but won the third in a ten point tiebreaker. The boys take on the D2 North champions Wayland on Tuesday at Saint John’s in Shrewsbury.
The girls tennis team defeated Wellesley 3-2 after sweeping singles. Junior Marielle Yuan put the Eagles on the board early, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-1. After Wellesley knotted the score at one with a win at second doubles, freshman Emily Zhang put the Eagles one point away from clinching a spot in the state semi-finals. All eyes were on first singles and sophomore Nupur Shukla. She took a commanding 3-0 lead in the first set which she eventually won 6-3. Shulka was down 5-4 in the second set before rallying to send it into a tie breaker, which she won 7-6 (7-5). The girls advance to play the North champs, Westford Academy at Newton North High School on Monday.
