The Sharon High School girls lacrosse team notched their first ever playoff victory beating the Newton South Tigers, 13-12 on Tuesday.
The Eagles dominated the first half, taking a 9-3 advantage going into the break. Senior Alex Rabb led all scorers with four goals in the half followed by Emma Eberhardt who had three. Senior Anna Crosby also netted two goals and had three assists.
The first ten minutes of the second half went seemingly flawless for the Eagles as they jumped out to a 10-4 lead. However, Newton South scored three unanswered goals before Sabrina Robbins scored a much needed goal with ten minutes to play to give the Eagles breathing room.
This lead was not safe, however, as the Tigers roared back to cut the Sharon lead to one goal with just under 1:45 to play. Newton South had a couple of very close shots but sophomore goalie Rose Wald held her ground. After forcing a late turnover, Sharon was able to hold the ball until time expired.
Today, the 6-seed Eagles travel to Westford Academy for a spot in the state semifinals.
