Coming off a season in which they fell one game short of qualifying for the playoffs, the Girl’s Lacrosse Team is looking to clinch a spot in the tournament this year. The team is led by senior captains Alex Miller, Alexa Levitt, and Heather Segglin and coached by Coach Manning and Coach Norton.
Alex Miller says that the playoffs are not just a goal, but also an expectation. “We have a lot of returning players this year who are looking forward to improving our record from last year. The team is committed to working hard and giving it our all in order to make the tournament,” said Miller.
Sophomore Sabrina Robbins says she has high hopes for the season, as there are many veteran starters this year. “Our goal is to have a winning record and to make the tournament for the first time ever. Our team has been bonding and we’ve grown very close. I think our communication on and off the field will help us achieve our goals,” said Robbins.
Coach Manning says that despite a very successful season last year, she is very focused on improving and working hard for the upcoming season.
“Although last years record was the best Sharon Girls Lacrosse record in 15 years, I never look backward and focus on the current year. For this year I expect a lot of communication off and on the field. The team will be working on shooting and winning the draw, two key essentials in winning a lacrosse game. It is most important the girls are having fun and improving their lacrosse IQ,” said Manning.
Additionally, Manning says that the team is filled with both young and old talent, which will ultimately help the team achieve their goals.
“I am looking into having a great transition starting with our goalie Kathryn Derry. I am excited to have Amanda Kaplan, Lydia Chase, and Sam Rabb as a strong defense. Our midfielders Anna Crosby and Sabrina Robbins will be key in winning the draw and my attackers, especially Alex Rabb, should expect a lot of goals this season,” added Manning.
The players listed above are considered the key players to watch this year along with captains Alex Miller and Heather Segglin. Unfortunately, Alexa Levitt will not be active on the field this year due to injuries.
