F.F.L. Week Five

By: Jesse A. Cook (Executive Managing Sports Editor)

I can’t speak for the Monday Night Football game, but the rest of Week Four gave us goosebumps. As we get into October, let’s look at who’s good for Week Five.

Running back Nick Chubb of the Cleveland Browns is fast. I’m talking really fast. Sure, he’s playing the solid San Francisco 49ers, but he will run right by them. Last week, against the Baltimore Ravens, he ran for 165 yards, averaged 8.2 yards per rushing attempt, caught for 18 yards, averaged six yards per reception, and scored three touchdowns. The Niners are coming off of a Week Four bye, but in Week Three they barely beat a then-shaky Pittsburgh Steelers 24-20 (reminder Pittsburgh quarterback Mason Rudolph did go off on Monday Night, but he wasn’t playing a real football team, he had the Cincinnati Bengals).

In Week Three, the 49ers scored eight points on E.S.P.N. and seven points on Yahoo. They’re projected to produce 5.9 points on E.S.P.N. and 6.65 points on Yahoo this week. In Week Four, Chubb scored 39.3 fantasy points on E.S.P.N. and 37.8 fantasy points on Yahoo. In Week Five, he’s projected to earn 19.7 points on E.S.P.N. and 17.19 points on Yahoo.

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos is a great dark horse pick. He has the Los Angeles Chargers and though they shut down their Week Four opponent, that opponent was the wimpy Miami Dolphins. Sutton’s Broncos lost 26-24 to the Jacksonville Jaguars and he caught six passes for 62 yards, averaging 10.3 yards per reception. He also scored two touchdowns (which is really meant to be emphasized, but you get the picture).

Because of their close-to nonexistent opponent last week in Miami, the Chargers’ 12.0 points on E.S.P.N. and 11.0 points on Yahoo do not matter. They are projected to score 6.7 points on E.S.P.N. and 8.01 points on Yahoo this week. Sutton scored a staggering 24.2 points on E.S.P.N. and 21.2 points on Yahoo last week. This week, E.S.P.N. has him for 11.6 fantasy points and Yahoo has him for 10.65 fantasy points.

Risk it for the Brissett. Jacoby Brissett of the Indianapolis Colts should be your pick this week in the pocket. He’s got the Kansas City Chiefs who almost lost to Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions who had to work without Eric Ebron playing his best. K.C. is undefeated, but they are having trouble and Brissett has a great mind for football and is going to show off. In Week Four, he passed for 265 yards, passed for three touchdowns, and rushed for 19 yards.

The Chiefs scored a generous ten points on E.S.P.N. and 13.0 points on Yahoo last week, but this week, they’re projected to produce only 6.3 points on E.S.P.N. and 6.87 points on Yahoo. Brissett produced 22.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 23.5 points on Yahoo last week. This week, he’s projected to earn 19.4 fantasy points on E.S.P.N. and 18.57 fantasy points on Yahoo.

Chris Carson of the Seattle Seahawks is playing against the Los Angeles Rams who allowed 55 points to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. If that was not enough, the Rams allowed 99 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns to a passing team. Carson ran all over the Arizona Cardinals last week, rushing for 104 yards, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, receiving for 41 yards, and averaging 10.2 yards per reception.

The Rams scored a modest six points on Yahoo last week… they scored ZERO on E.S.P.N. This week, they’re projected to earn 5.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 5.99 points on Yahoo. Carson scored 18.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 16.5 points on Yahoo. He’s projected to produce 14.6 points on E.S.P.N. and 14.34 points on Yahoo tonight on Thursday Night Football.

“John Brown’s body lies a-moldering in the” END ZONE. John Brown of the Buffalo Bills is gonna click with whoever’s slinging to him this week against the Tennessee Titans. Whether it’s the starter in Josh Allen or the backup in Matt Barkley, Brown has got it going on. Even against the best defense in football, the New England Patriots, he caught for 69 yards and averaged 13.8 yards per reception. The Titans allowed 397 passing yards to Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons.

They earned seven points on E.S.P.N. and 11.0 points on Yahoo. They are projected to produce 8.9 points on E.S.P.N. and 8.16 points on Yahoo. Brown earned 11.9 points on E.S.P.N. and 9.4 points on Yahoo in Week Four. E.S.P.N. sets him to score 11.1 fantasy points and Yahoo sets him to score 9.8 fantasy points in Week Five.

Evan Engram of the New York Giants has his quarterback for the year set as Daniel Jones. He’s playing a tough Minnesota Vikings, but good is good. Additionally, the Vikings allowed 195 passing yards and one passing touchdown to Chicago Bears BACKUP quarterback Chase Daniel. Engram caught for 113 yards, averaged 18.8 yards per reception, and caught for one touchdown.

The Vikings scored four points on E.S.P.N. and two points on Yahoo last week. They’re set to produce 5.7 points on E.S.P.N. and 8.24 points on Yahoo this week. Engram scored 9.4 points on E.S.P.N. and 7.4 points on Yahoo last week. This week, he’s projected to earn 14.3 points on E.S.P.N. and 10.54 points on Yahoo.

James Conner of the Steelers is elusive and he’s gonna be riding a solid Monday Night Game against Cincinnati into Baltimore. The Ravens allowed a lot of rushing to Chubb and the Browns, as you read before, and it’s gonna be the same way with Conner and the Steelers. Conner rushed for 42 yards, averaged 4.2 yards per play, caught for 83 yards, averaged 10.4 yards per reception, and scored one receiving touchdown. His rushing was really limited to running out the clock in the fourth quarter.

The Ravens scored negative six points on E.S.P.N. and negative one points on Yahoo last week. This week, they’re projected to earn 5.3 points on E.S.P.N. and 6.38 points on Yahoo. Conner scored 26.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 22.5 points on Yahoo in Week Four. He’s projected to produce 15.3 fantasy points on E.S.P.N. and 12.74 fantasy points on Yahoo in Week Five.

The Chiefs’ Harrison Butker is a good pick at kicker. He’s playing against the Colts who lost to the decrepit Oakland Raiders 31-24 last week, allowing 378 total yards. Butker’s offense is being driven by the reigning M.V.P. and cover of Madden 20, quarterback Patrick Mahomes. That says enough.

Indianapolis scored two points on E.S.P.N. and three points on Yahoo last week. They’re projected to earn 0.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 3.38 points on Yahoo this week against Kansas City. Butker scored ten points on E.S.P.N. and 11.0 points on Yahoo last week. E.S.P.N. has him for 9.5 points and Yahoo has him for 9.54 points this week.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are playing against the New Orleans Saints who are led by an emotional Teddy Bridgewater. Nothing will erase that they allowed 40 points to Jared Goff and the Rams, but don’t expect them to be awful against a backup. Bridgewater tossed for 193 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception against the subpar Dallas Cowboys defense.

He scored an abysmal 6.5 points on E.S.P.N. and 7.52 points on Yahoo last week. He’s projected to produce 16.1 points on E.S.P.N. and 15.6 points on Yahoo this week. In Week Four, the Bucs earned nine points on E.S.P.N. and 15.0 points on Yahoo. They’re projected to score 5.7 fantasy points on E.S.P.N. and 6.04 fantasy points on Yahoo this week in Week Five.
